As more people have to commute to get to their place of work having entertainment for their car is becoming more important than ever before. There are so many different products you can now buy for your car including DVD players, TV’s and top of the range CD players, some people now have better entertainment systems in their cars than they do in their homes. However, these kind of systems are highly popular with people that have children they need to
keep amused for long periods of time, for example if they were going on holiday and the car journey was to take 5 hours then the children may get restless, if they have DVD’s to watch they are likely to be entertained for most of the journey. Some of the systems you can get are as follows:
Over head systems – These are better for those who have children as they are easily seen from the back of the vehicle. These central roof-mounted video systems can be factory-fitted or you can purchase them separately and have them fitted later on. They can have the DVD system built into it as part of the unit or work from a dash-mounted player. One of the extras these systems can have is built in surround sound so although the driver may not be able to see the screen they will still be able to have great sound quality. The screen size varies from 7 inches to around 15 inches, although the larger screens tend to be better in larger vehicles as it may restrict vision in the rear view mirror of smaller cars so you would need to make sure you have enough headroom in your car to take advantage of an overhead screen. You may also have the choice of standard or widescreen displays. You will also need to make sure the screen has a wide viewing angle, as it will be mounted centrally so left and right-side backseat
passengers will be watching it from a side angle. Often, this type of unit will have a variety of video and audio inputs for connection to other systems, for example remote control or games consoles. Being permanently mounted, they are not only harder to steal, but fold up out of harm's way when not in use.
Head rest or dash board systems – They are similar to the over head in the way they can be mounted but they have the advantage of being removed so they can be hand held. Usually, they come with at least two screens so one could be mounted and the other hand held. Some systems mount the player unit in the vehicle permanently but allow the screens to be removed and stored for safekeeping. Other, more portable, systems come with brackets, straps or other attachments for the player and also for attaching the screens behind the headrest, allowing them to be removed to avoid theft. Some newer cars have them pre-fitted into the cars head rests and have a clip in clip out system so they can be removed. Whether built-in or mounted, headrest units do have the advantage of hands-free viewing and its placed directly in front of the viewer, so there is no loss of colour or detail that you sometimes get when viewing LCD monitors from a side angle.
There are many more variations but you can see from this small selection there is plenty of variation in what you can have. There is more information available at car entertainment shops or even online there is lots of information and reviews on different products.
