When it comes to repairing and maintaining your car there are some simple checks you can do to ensure your car works to the best of its ability. If you know how to check over your car thoroughly then you can establish which parts you need instead of paying some one to check your car for you, so in the life of your car it could save you a fair amount of money. There are different parts you can tell need changing just by how your car works when being driven, some of these different parts and the signs they need replacing are:
Clutch – The clutch is similar to the brakes in the way that its main problem is its pads on the disk wears down after a certain amount of usage. The clutch is a very important part of the car as it controls the power going from the wheels to the engine, and makes it possible for the engine to continue turning but the wheels stop. In order for the wheels to have the right power the clutch has to make sure the two disks connecting the engine to the wheels turn at the same time when the driver wants motion. All cars have a clutch even if it’s an automatic, the main way you can tell if the clutch is faulty is if the gears slip when you are trying to change them.
Brakes – Another important part of your vehicle are your brakes as they are probably the most important safety features in your car. Checking your brakes are in good working order is one of the easiest things as there is a lot you can tell from the noises your car makes that relate to the brakes if there is a fault. For example if you hear I high pitched squeaking noise every time you brake it is most likely that your brake pads have worn down, it important for you to get these changed as soon as you think there is a problem because if the pads wear down to the metal they could warp your brake rotors and in turn affect your steering.
Transmission –
This part is one of the most expensive parts to replace on a vehicle, and yet is one of the easiest parts to brake. The transmission drives the gears in your car so it is a fairly essential part in the running of your car. If your transmission is broken then your car will not physically move as when you press your clutch and give instruction for a change in gear the information will not be transmitted to the gears. So if when pressing your clutch the gears aren’t slipping but your car will not go into gear you will be best taking the car to a professional garage to diagnose whether it is a problem with your transmission.
There are many parts on your car that can be easily broken so knowing what to check when a problem occurs would be very useful. There is a lot more information on the parts you can check and what the faults are either on line or if you have a local garage they may be able to give you some advice on what the problem is if you describe the symptoms.
